While the library's ceilings aren't hung with vines like Max's room in "Where the Wild Things Are," Central has made it easy to find the Sendak exhibit, whose installation here was designed by Jim Weimer. ![]() MPL has scheduled a variety of related activities, at Central and at branch libraries throughout the city. The Sendak exhibit also dovetails with the library's Super Reader summer reading program. You don't even need a library card to see it, Milwaukee Public Library Director Paula Kiely said, although she would love to see you and yours get a card. The exhibit draws heavily from Sendak's classic picture book "Where the Wild Things Are" (1963) but also includes other work, including a remarkable piece of 10th-grade homework.Īdmission is free. The traveling exhibit "Maurice Sendak: 50 Years, Works, Reasons" has filled several walls near Central's Betty Brinn Children's Room with Sendak's paintings, drawings, lithographs and illustrations. 23, it's the first place to look for one.
